Cairo University (Arabic: جامعة القاهرةromanized: Jāmi‘a al-Qāhira), also known as the Egyptian University from 1908 to 1940, and King Fuad I University and Fu’ād al-Awwal University from 1940 to 1952, is Egypt’s premier public university.

Cairo University

Its main campus is in Giza, immediately across the Nile from Cairo. It was founded on 21 December 1908. However, after being housed in various parts of Cairo, its faculties, beginning with the Faculty of Arts, were established on its current main campus in Giza in October 1929.

Al Azhar University

It is the second oldest institution of higher education in Egypt after Al Azhar University, notwithstanding the pre-existing higher professional schools that later became constituent colleges of the university.

It was founded and funded as the Egyptian University by a committee of private citizens with royal patronage in 1908 and became a state institution under King Fuad I in 1925. In 1940, four years following his death, the university was renamed King Fuad I University in his honor. It was renamed a second time after the Egyptian revolution of 1952.

The university currently enrolls approximately 155,000 students in 20 faculties and 3 institutions.  It counts three Nobel Laureates among its graduates and is one of the 50 largest institutions of higher education in the world by enrollment.

The President of Cairo University

Professor Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, President of Cairo University, thanked the British Council, the competent authorities in the UK, and Cambridge for the courage shown in reconsidering and reviewing the assessment criteria of IGCSE students, which triggered discontent and frustration in many countries around the world because of adopting an assessment system that is both unfair and contrary to what was previously announced.
Professor Elkhosht said that reviewing the assessment methods and the return to fairer evaluation criteria is a respectable model, as it does not insist on adopting an erroneous assessment method. He stressed that the courage of Cambridge, exhibited in its return to logic and fairness, restored the confidence of students and parents in it once agai

Cairo University Celebrates Forty Fifth Anniversary of October Victory

Cairo University organizes a celebration on the occasion of the forty fifth anniversary of October War at Grand Celebration Hall Cairo University on Monday, October 22, 2018. The celebration is attended by Cairo University President Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, Former Reconnaissance President and Professor of Strategic Sciences at Nasser Military Academy Nasr Mohamed Nasr Salem, faculty members, employees and students.

Cairo University President Mohamed Othman Elkhosht said that Cairo University is keen on honoring 50 professors and employees of Cairo University graduates who participated in October War 1973.

Cairo University President added that keeping all Arab countries safe is a crucial thing for the stability, safety and security of the region. He assures the importance of standing against exterior conspiracies and avoid deceptive slogans.

Dr. Nasr Salem delivers an extended lecture entitled ،،The Dangers Surrounding Egypt and Arab World before and after October Victory 1973.,, The lecture handles the nature of strategic plan of October War and the victories achieved by Egyptian Army are studied in military academies. The lecture illustrates the success factors of National Army in restoring land and promoting the dignity of homeland and citizen.

Cairo University President Meets Vice-President of Renmin University of China to Discuss Means of Cooperation of Belt and Road Initiative with Ain Shams University President Attending

Cairo UniversityCairo University President Mohamed Othman Elkhosht meets Vice-President of Renmin University of China at office in October 21, 2018. The meeting is attended by Ain Shams University President, Chair of Chinese Department and Manager of Confucius Institute Cairo University Rehab Mahmoud, and Member of International Relations Office Cairo University Haidy Baioumy.

The meeting handles means of fostering cooperation between Cairo University and Ain Shams University and Renmin University of China in the Belt and Road Initiative launched by China in the framework of developmental strategy that focuses on communication and cooperation between states.

Procedures to be followed by Egyptian and foreign students to enroll for postgraduate studies (Diplomas – Masters – PhDs)

Documents To Be Submitted By Foreign Students:

An equivalent certificate of the latest academic qualification awarded by the Supreme Council of Universities in Egypt.
A letter of candidacy from the country the student comes from to the faculty the student wishes to study at, clarifying the providing body, the university year in which the student wishes to study, and the degree obtained by the student. Also, the letter has to be signed by the cultural consultant of the embassy to be sent to the dean of the desired faculty.
A copy of the students passport that is valid for one whole year.
A document which proves that the student does not have AIDS, before seeking admission or registration.
An Excellence Certificate valid for one year (for medicine students)
Filing in 3 data forms at the desired faculty.
Filling in 3 information forms at the desired faculty.
Four personal photos
A file folder.
The grades of the four-year bachelor.
A diploma or pre-master certificate.

What is Next?

After fulfilling all previous requirements, an original copy of an Information Form and three photocopies of it have to be submitted with the students signature on them.

Enclosing a photocopy of the approval of the students embassy that the embassy agrees that the student study at the desired faculty, clarifying the providing body, the university year in which the student wishes to study and the degree the student wishes to do.

Faculties are to send the students data forms to the Supreme Council of Universities in Egypt.

Documents To Be Submitted By Egyptian Students:

The temporary bachelors certificate with the grade required for applying for Diplomas or Master degrees.
The temporary Master Certificate with the required grade (for PhD applicants)
A score report of the four-years bachelor.
A birth certificate or an official copy of it.
A copy of the National ID Card.
Six personal (4*6) photos.
Approval of the students workplace that he/she can enroll for postgraduate studies.
If the student is a civil servant, he/she has to have approval of his/her workplace that he/she can give all his/her time to studies if necessary (or according to the facultys bylaws)
The Military Status Certificate (postponed / temporarily exempted / finally exempted)
The Armed Forces approval in the case of conscripted students.
The Officers Affairs Departments approval if the student is a military officer or a police officer.

Ranking

Cairo University is usually ranked among the down universities in Egypt, and one of the top universities in Africa. In QS ranking 2021, Cairo University was ranked the 2nd in Egypt and the 6th across Africa, and it was rated 561-570 worldwide.  In the ARWU 2020 ranking, the university was ranked 1st in Egypt.

It was rated 401-500 worldwide. According to the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) 2020–21, the university was ranked 1st in Egypt, and the 558th worldwide

Structure

Cairo University includes a School of Law and a School of Medicine. The Medical School, also known as Kasr Alaini (القصر العيني, Qasr-el-‘Ayni), was one of the first medical schools in Africa and the Middle East. Its first building was donated by Alaini Pasha. It has since undergone extensive expansion. The first president of Cairo University, then known as the Egyptian University, was Professor Ahmed Lutfi el-Sayed, who served from 1925 to 1941
